Police: Woman arrested after embezzling $160,000 from former employer

Santa Rosa police arrested a woman accused of stealing more than $160,000 from her former employer on Wednesday, according to a news release from the department.

Santa Rosa police on Wednesday arrested a woman accused of stealing more than $160,000 from her former employer, Amaturo Sonoma Media Group LLC, according to a department news release.

The woman, Tina Cabudoy, 50, who recently moved to San Jose from Santa Rosa, also faces 35 embezzlement charges, most of them felonies. Suspected theft of $300,000 From a previous employer in San Carlos.

Cabudoy’s arrest this week follows a months-long investigation that began in April when officials with Amaturo Sonoma Media Group, where Cabudoy served as business manager, told police they believed he stole more than $100,000 from the company.

Detectives with the property crimes investigation team audited Cabudoy’s spending and served several search warrants on financial institutions to analyze spending records, authorities said.

The investigation revealed Cabudoy used company checks and credit cards and spent more than $160,000 on unauthorized transactions, including in-home Amazon purchases, “lavish” hotel stays, travel and an “extravagant” birthday party for himself, the statement said.

On Wednesday, detectives executed a search warrant at Cabudoy’s home in San Jose and arrested him. Officers seized additional financial documents from the residence to use as evidence.

Cabudoy is being held in the Sonoma County jail in Santa Rosa on suspicion of embezzlement. His bail was set at $100,000.
