Holly Newton murder: CCTV shows teenage killer stalking ex-girlfriend | England | News

Chilling CCTV footage has emerged showing a teenage killer stalking Holly Newton before his horrific murder.

Logan MacPhail, then 16, was sentenced to at least 17 years in prison after being found guilty of stabbing his 15-year-old ex-girlfriend to death in the street.

He was found guilty of murder after a trial at Newcastle Crown Court and was sentenced at the same court on Friday.

The teenager stalked Holly for an hour in Hexham, Northumberland, and then stabbed her 36 times in an alley during a terrifying attack.

CCTV footage shows him wearing a cap and a baseball cap as he followed the teenager and his friends through the city centre.

In one chilling episode, MacPhail is shown approaching his victim on top of a bus, shortly before launching his deadly attack.

Other footage shows Holly and a young male friend entering a pizza restaurant while MacPhail waits outside to speak to her.

The teenager was also injured while trying to protect Holly from MacPhail.

Sentencing at Newcastle Crown Court this morning, Mr Justice Hilliard told MacPhail: “The fact is that you made a conscious decision to stab a 15-year-old girl to death with a knife that you were unlawfully carrying in a public place. Your relationship with her had ended.” You secretly followed him around the city for an hour.

“You were jealous of the fact that he could see someone else.

“What happened in this case should never happen to any child or parent.”

Chillingly, MacPhail had visited the Newton family home in Haltwhistle, Northumberland, late the previous evening and attempted to enter their home, but was refused entry by one of his siblings.

Her mother, Micala Trussler, at the pool BBC In the interview filmed before MacPhail’s sentencing, he said: “I think if he had somehow managed to get into the house, we could have been looking at multiple counts of murder.”
