Wayas’ remains to be airlifted to his community – Governor Otu’s aide

The body of the late former Senate President Joseph Wayas will be lifted by helicopter from UJ Esuene Stadium in Calabar to Bassang community in Obanliku LGA of Cross River State on November 30, 2024.

The confirmation was made in Calabar by Gill Nsa, Press Secretary to Governor Bassey Otu and chairman of the central planning committee on promotion.

“We will not subject Wayas’s body to long hours of traveling on the way to his final resting place,” Otu’s deputy NSA said.

The report emerged yesterday, immediately after the press conference in which Dorn Cklaimz, chairman of the funeral’s central planning committee, announced the funeral date.

The NSA said the main funeral ceremony will be held at UJ Esuene Stadium in Calabar instead of Bassang community in Obanliku LGA and will be attended by former heads of state, living former Senate Presidents, former and current governors as well as some other dignitaries.

“The body will then be taken by helicopter to the Bassang community, where a mausoleum will be prepared as his final resting place,” he said.

Cklaimz disclosed that the Office of the Senate President will bear the cost of transportation from the National Hospital, Abuja to the Calabar Stadium and the Bassang community.
