TOWN OF DICKINSON, NY (WIVT/WBGH) – SUNY Broome Community College recently graduated its first class of students from its Lineworker Training Program.

SUNY Broome announced Thursday that 21 students graduated from its Line Worker Training Program on Oct. 3. The program is administered in partnership with NYSEG and addresses critical workforce needs in the energy and utilities sectors.

According to SUNY Broome, 43% of graduates have already gone on to work in related fields.

The graduation event included a job fair followed by a ceremony to connect graduates directly with employers. This allowed graduates to discover immediate job opportunities, network with potential employers and learn more about the industry.

“The successful graduation of our first group of employees is an excellent example of a successful collaboration when a community college joins forces with an established company like NYSEG. SUNY Broome President Dr. “Together we are meeting the needs of our region’s workforce and training future workers for high-paying, in-demand jobs,” said Tony D. Hawkins. “I commend Danielle Britton and SUNY Broome’s Office of Workforce Development for spearheading this innovative program, and most importantly, I am proud of our recent graduates and look forward to seeing them take their careers to new heights.”

The Lineworker Training Program blends classroom instruction with hands-on training at NYSEG’s training site. Graduates also earned certifications in First Aid, CPR, OSHA 10, and Digger Derrick and Insulated Air Device operations.
