Noted economist and The New Indian Express columnist Bibek Debroy dies at 69

Renowned economist and Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council (EAC-PM) Bibek Debroy passed away this morning in New Delhi at the age of 69.

He was admitted to AIIMS, which issued a statement confirming that Debroy passed away due to “intestinal obstruction” at 7 am today.

Debroy is also a columnist New Indian Express and chairman of the committee that decides the winner of the inaugural Ramnath Goenka Sahitya Sammelan award given by our publication.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled Debroy’s demise and called him “a very eminent scientist”.

“Dr. Bibek Debroy ji was a scholar of great importance, knowledgeable in various fields such as economics, history, culture, politics, spirituality and more. He left an indelible mark on the intellectual landscape of India through his works. Beyond his contributions to public policy on our Ancient texts He enjoyed working and making them accessible to young people,” he said in a post on X.

She also shared a photo of herself with Debroy.
