On Thursday night, one person was killed by gunfire at a Washington State mall while the shopping complex was hosting a Halloween event.

The fatal shooting occurred in the second-floor food court of the Vancouver Mall just after 7:30 p.m. PST, as shoppers ran out of the building for safety. The Colombian reported: We’re talking about emergency scanners.

Two people were injured and taken to a local hospital. Vancouver Police said on X. Their conditions were not immediately known.

“There is currently no active threat inside the mall and police are making contact with people hiding inside the mall,” the department said. “More information will be released as soon as it becomes available.”

The chaotic scene unfolded as the mall was wrapping up its annual “Trick-or-Treat” event.

The mall-wide Halloween celebration encouraged community members of all ages to dress in costumes and wander into select stores handing out candy.

The event was planned to end at 20.00

A father had just finished trick-or-treating with his wife and kids and was at the mall’s Round 1 bowling alley when people started running out of the bowling alley before learning he was an active shooter.

“I took my two kids and put them behind me,” Gregory Iiams told the Columbian.

Authorities did not release details of the attacker or the victims.

The 880,000-square-foot mall has more than 140 stores and is located 7 miles north of the Columbia River, which separates Washington State from Portland, Oregon.
