Cornel West, Supreme Court Pa. lost bid to enter presidential ballot

WASHINGTON (AP) — Third-party presidential candidate Cornel West on Thursday lost his bid to be included on the Supreme Court presidential ballot in the key battleground state of Pennsylvania.

Justice Samuel Alito dismissed the emergency appeal in a summary order. Alito is dealing with objections from Pennsylvania.

West, a liberal academic who currently serves as a professor of philosophy and Christian practice at Union Theological Seminary in New York, will likely receive many more votes than the Vice President, the Democratic nominee. Kamala Harris than the former Republican President Donald Trump. West’s lawyers in the case have deep ties to Republicans.

The rejection follows a recusal earlier this month by U.S. District Judge J. Nicholas Ranjan, who expressed sympathy for West’s claim but found it was too late to reprint ballots and retest election machines without increasing the risk of errors.

Ranjan cited federal precedents that say courts should not disrupt upcoming elections without a strong reason.
