STATESBORO, Ga. (WSAV) – The Statesboro Police Department (SPD) arrested a 17-year-old male who was hiding under a 12-year-old girl’s bed.

SPD said officers were notified by a parent that her 12-year-old daughter may have had inappropriate contact with an adult male. The man arranged to sneak into the girl’s room that afternoon.

SPD said that while the mother was going to the police station with her daughter, the police intervened in the mother’s home.

SPD said the male, Christopher Grant, was hiding under the child’s bed and was taken into custody.

SPD said the man was found to be in illegal possession of a handgun. The gun’s serial number had been erased.

At the conclusion of the investigation, Grant was transported to the Bulloch County Jail on the following charges: aggravated child molestation, sodomy, possession of an article with an inscription on it.

SPD said this case highlights the importance of parental involvement in children’s lives and activities, especially in social interactions and social media platforms.
The parent in this case noticed suspicious activity and immediately reported it to law enforcement.

“I thank him,” said Capt. Jared Akins of the Statesboro Police. “She runs a very busy schedule but still finds time to deal with what’s going on with her child and that’s a huge thing so we really encourage that because we don’t know what’s going on in your home but you certainly do and as a child these days you have everything that Kids need to absorb and access As a parent, being in your child’s life has never been more important.”
