Law enforcement warns about sex offenders in neighborhoods

WACO, Texas (KWTX) – As trick-or-treaters head out the door, McLennan County law enforcement is doing their best to keep everyone safe without ruining the Halloween spirit.

William “Chip” Seigman, director of McLennan County’s Adult Probation team, says there are 168 registered sex offenders in the county, and none of them must be dolled up, their porch lights must not be on, and they cannot leave their homes starting at 5 p.m. tonight. tomorrow morning 6.

The Mclennan County Sheriff’s Office said they will assist the Adult Probation team who patrol neighborhoods and check on criminals.

35 registered offenders in McLennan County are exempt from this inspection for work-related or medical reasons or if they are in custody; but they are still being monitored by law enforcement.

“Criminals know that’s what we’re asking them to do, and the public knows that we’re out there looking for criminals and verifying where they need to be,” Seigman said.

Cities like Temple in Bell County are incorporating their police departments into community celebrations to increase police presence.

Sydney McBride with the Temple Police Department reminds parents and children to be careful when trick-or-treating and to stick together in case of emergency.

“Families should stay together and walk in groups, stay with friends, stay with parents, carry flashlights and cell phones, and generally be aware of your surroundings,” McBride suggested.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children reminds parents to plan your route in advance and stay together as you travel through new neighborhoods.
