The Vail Christian girls volleyball team defeated Soroco 25-16, 25-14, 25-21 on the road Tuesday to improve to 14-6 overall and 6-3 in the 2A Western Slope.

“We had a good, solid night,” Vail Christian head coach Britney Branson said after her team’s penultimate regular season game. “We were definitely able to get them out of the system.”

Branson said the Saints limited Soroco’s star middle hitters Kendall Gibson and Kolbie Pierce on strong serve power. Betty Bartok led the way, collecting six of the Saints’ 11 aces.

“Our serving percentage was 85; “We usually like to be in the nineties, but I think we’re very aggressive when we’re officiating,” Branson said. Sam Bates’ team-leading 10 digs was another key factor slowing down the Rams’ attack in the midfield.

“He was very solid there,” Branson said. “And it’s a huge momentum builder for us.”

Mary McClarrinon led the Saints with 10 kills. Olivia Zajac and Bartok added six and four points, respectively, while Tenley Brasington had 13 assists.

“I felt like we were super focused, calm, professional — everything,” the coach concluded. “It was nice to get in and out and win in three.”

Vail Christian will close the regular season at home against North Park (6-16) on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
