Woman accused of stealing $260,000 worth of jewelry from 78-year-old IB resident

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A woman suspected of stealing more than a quarter-million dollars worth of jewelry from a 78-year-old Imperial Beach resident was arrested Wednesday.

Maria De Los Angeles Cabrera, 39, was taken into custody after she was allegedly caught trying to sell stolen valuables at a pawn shop in San Diego, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.

The owner of the jewelry, which consisted of a yellow diamond-studded ring worth $200,000 and a pair of diamond earrings worth $60,000, noticed that they were missing from his home last Thursday. Michael Mascarenas said. After the suspect was arrested, deputies returned them to him.

Cabrera was booked into the Las Colinas women’s prison in Santee on suspicion of burglary, grand larceny and elder abuse, Mascarenas said.
