Top-seeded Oregon expected to beat Michigan, but defending national champions look confident

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Top ranked Oregon Michigan, favored by BetMGM Sportsbook, is projected to win by more than two goals on Saturday at the Big House.

Even though he was a heavy oppressed, defending champion Wolverines They seem pretty confident about their chances.

“This is a great program and we have a lot of great players in this building,” quarterback Davis Warren said. “I’m confident we’re capable of beating any team in the country.”

The Ducks (8-0, 5-0 Big Ten) have defeated five of their last six opponents, and Michigan (5-3, 2-2) could be the next team to suffer a lopsided defeat.

Oregon coach Dan Lanning is looking forward to the next chance for his team to show what it can do.

“We get the opportunity to play with the reigning national champions,” Lanning said. “Every week is tough in this conference. We know we will do our best.”

Advantage, Oregon

The Ducks appear to have a clear edge at quarterback with Dillon Gabriel, the BetMGM Sportsbook pick to win the Heisman Trophy.

The sixth-year player is four goals away from breaking the NCAA record held by former Houston star Case Keenum.

Gabriel ranks 2nd in NCAA history with 175 career TDs, 143 passing TDs and 18,401 total yards.

“He’s elite in every way; reading the coverage, making plays, making shots down the field, controlling the offense with his feet,” Michigan coach Sherrone Moore said. “You have to do things that will confuse and disturb her.”

Michigan, meanwhile, plans to start Warren and give Alex Orji some snaps as a change-of-pace option at run quarterback.

Warren won the job in the preseason and lost it after three games. Orji had the opportunity to start the next three matches and was benched in favor of Jack Tuttle, who announced his retirement from football earlier this week due to a concussion and elbow injury.

Warren was given a chance to start again in last week’s win against Michigan State and kept the job largely because he played turnover-free football.

Planning to reach the top

There was only one team game that was close in Oregon’s six-game span, a one-point victory over then-No. 2 Ohio State.

The Ducks may not be tested in November because they play Michigan and Wisconsin and host Maryland and Washington.

“At the beginning of every year everyone asks me what success looks like, in my opinion we are playing our best football at the end of the season,” Lanning said.

business decision

Michigan cornerback Will Johnson did not play in last week’s win over Michigan State due to an injury, and although the team is relegated and playing for pride, Moore expects the youngster to return this season. Best pick in the NFL draft.

“Will has no plans to close this place or anything like that,” Moore said. “I have no doubt that he is a competitor who wants to be on the field with his teammates.”

compact back

Oregon’s Jordan James is a 6-foot-1, 210-pound running back who averages 100 yards rushing a game and had one of his best games, a 115-yard performance in a one-point victory over then-No. 2 Ohio State.

“He’s a smaller guy, but he’s a fierce runner,” Moore said.

another chance

The last time Michigan played a top team, it wasn’t a good day for the maize and blue team. Who dominated the Wolverines at the time- No. 3 Texas 31-12 and the game didn’t look that close.

“We are much more prepared and better equipped, especially on offense,” Warren said.
