There is no better women’s division in professional wrestling than the one Shawn Michaels has put together in NXT.

The success of the brand is not just about the assembly of the cast and their diverse backgrounds, disciplines and background styles, but how they are used.

Unlike Raw, SmackDown, and AEW Dynamite, the NXT brand has plenty of ongoing storylines and isn’t afraid to load up episodic matches and segments throughout its two-hour airtime.

On Tuesday’s show alone, fans were treated to the first Casket match in women’s league history as Tatum Paxley defeated Wendy Choo to end their ongoing feud.

Kelani Jordan defeated Nikita Lyons, sparking a feud between Nikita Lyons and Adrianna Rizzo, who wanted revenge for a backstage attack on last week’s show.

From there, Zaria made a lasting impact with her one-sided victory over Brinley Reece and then joined Jordan, Stephanie Vaquer, Giulia and former TNA Knockouts champion Jordynne Grace to take on Roxanne Perez, Cora Jade and Fatal Influence’s Jacy Jayne, Jazmyn Nyx . and women’s North American champion Fallon Henley.

This latest episode set up a massive 10-woman tag team match for next week’s highly anticipated broadcast from the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, the former home of ECW.

Add to that a video package for Philly hyping Lola Vice and Jaida Parker, and you have a show with at least five ongoing storylines involving the women of NXT.

In contrast, on Raw, the women’s division had just over six minutes of playing time and little else as Ivy Nile defeated Zelina Vega.

On SmackDown, Naomi picked up the win over Candice LeRae, assisted by Bayley, in over eight minutes.

Wednesday’s Dynamite saw Kris Statlander defeat Kamille in 6:28 seconds, followed by a reluctant defeat by Mercedes Mone, and a video package for Saturday’s Collision that hyped Anna Jay and Mariah May.

Women’s wrestling is stronger than ever with international talent coming to the fore in both WWE and AEW, but it’s NXT that’s most committed to delivering it with truly meaningful storylines.

Not just to fill a one-time quota or prevent fans from reacting due to absence, it features the division’s stars in legitimate rivalries that pay dividends in both premium live events and high-profile matchups on a weekly basis. Broadcast main events.

Michaels’ commitment is to develop the roster and improve it while making it stand out prominently. In one fell swoop, she and WWE chief content officer Triple H signed Vaquer, Giulia and Zaria to strengthen that roster, showing how important the women’s division is on the third brand.

More importantly, with the introduction of these women, combined with the talent already present in NXT, Raw and SmackDown, there is an argument that it is time for WWE to dust off and reintroduce the Evolution premium live event. to the program.

NXT alone has enough talent to put on a women’s only event and we still have competitors.

Rhea Ripley, Bayley, Liv Morgan, Nia Jax, Naomi, Bianca Belair, Jade Cargill, Chelsea Green, Piper Niven, Meta-Four’s Jakara Jackson and Lash Legend, Pure Fusion Collection, Natlaya, Vega, Nile, Kayden Carter When you factor in and Katana Chance and all the other female main roster competitors, WWE has more than enough talent on their hands to bring this event back and give it another try six years after the first one.

NXT laid the foundation for WWE’s other two brands and Tony Khan’s AEW to figure out how to literally do anything in women’s wrestling and deliver it in a way that lets fans know that what these talented stars do is just as important as what the men do. .

The talent is there. It is not a consistent commitment.

It’s time for Triple H and Khan to examine the situation and realize that a match with a video package or short behind-the-scenes story doesn’t maximize the division’s talent or present it in a way that will position women’s wrestling for success in 2024.

Follow NXT’s lead, develop characters and storylines, and let the women cook.

Chief Michaels knows what happened. Now is the time for the other most powerful executives in the industry to take notice and follow suit.
