Highbridge man grows huge pumpkins on his property

Mr. Rayner added that he was part of a community of giant vegetable growers.

“Everyone is swapping seeds, but it’s not something you’ll see at your local garden center,” he explained.

“I’ve made giant onions and giant tomatoes before.”

He said it was on the Somerset Levels so it had enough water to grow large vegetables.

“There’s a lot of feeding and maintenance involved, making sure weeds don’t get involved, but honestly if you leave them alone they’ll take care of themselves,” Mr Rayner said.

“Our allotments at Forge Rhyne Allotments are all organic, so we feed them things like horse manure and seaweed.”

Mr. Rayner planted his pumpkins in March and just harvested them.

He was going to donate it to a children’s cancer charity in Dorset, but his Halloween party was cancelled.

Instead, he gave it to Westcroft Farm, which said there was “a lot of interest” in the pumpkin.
