Juan Soto in free agency: Yankees 1 of 30 teams, no hometown discount

NEW YORK – When Yankees they eventually embraced, and the tears dried an hour after they inexplicably lost the World Series to the Dodgers. Juan Soto He gave a post-game interview in the middle of the clubhouse.

There were two questions on the subject Yankees’ error-filled 7-6 loss in Game 5, followed by 10 minutes of free agency.

Here. The Yankees have exclusive negotiating rights for five days, but they have absolutely no chance of getting a contract done by Monday.

The biggest takeaway?

Soto was given multiple chances to say he wanted to stay with the Yankees, but was accepted each time.

Agent Scott Boras trained this young man.

Soto also made clear that the Yankees will not receive a hometown discount. He said that all 30 teams are competing and the biggest criterion will be to go to a winning team.

“I think every team has the same opportunities when I go to free agency,” Soto said. “I don’t want to say that anyone has any advantage because at the end of the day we’re going to look at what they have.”

Soto also offered a funny quote when asked if Yankees fans’ love for him would influence his decision:

“It will probably influence the ownership decision! We’ll see how it goes. I’m absolutely thrilled and really grateful to these fans. “They were incredible all year long.”

What should Soto say if he wanted to go to a winning team that offered the most money?

Initial speculation is that Soto will receive at least $600 million.

“This is a huge amount of money that people are talking about here,” he said.

Will the Yankees go that high? Here is the latest situation:

The Yankees will be “competitive,” an industry source told NJ Advance Media baseball columnist Bob Klapisch on Wednesday.

If the Mets or someone else is involved, that might not be enough.

Questions about Soto’s future began when he was asked if he thought he had played his last game as a Yankee.

“You never know,” he replied. “At the end of the day we’ll see where we are. It’s definitely a tough game as it’s my last game but I’m really happy with what we’ve achieved as a team and the progress we’ve made. We definitely wanted to be the last team standing but it’s happening.”

Soto was then asked if he hoped to return to the Yankees if the money was right. Even then he couldn’t say yes.

“When we get the opportunity with my manager, we have to sit down and look at it,” he said.

Here are other important points:

Soto in free agency:

“It will be exciting. It will be a good experience. “I think every player in the major leagues wants to experience what’s going to happen in free agency.”

There’s a sense in whether Soto wants to sign with the Yankees or Mets:

“I don’t think so. I’m really happy with the city, the team and the performance of these guys. But at the end of the day, we will see. We will evaluate every situation and offer I receive and make a decision.

If Soto thinks the Mets will pursue him:

“I don’t know about the teams that want to come after me, but I will definitely be open to any team. I don’t have any closed doors, so I will be available for all 30 teams.

Soto on whether it would be difficult to leave the Yankees:

It’s always hard to leave any place with a winning team. This place was definitely very special. It was a huge explosion for me. I was really happy. Definitely whether I’m here or not. I would be really happy for the team. The people I met here were a truly special group. But we’ll see what happens at the end of the day.

Soto talked about whether it would be difficult to lose Judge as a teammate:

“I’m really happy with what we’ve done this year as a duo, as teammates. “It’s incredible. I’ve really learned a lot from him. It’s been really great to see that. I’ll take that to my next step.

Soto potentially leaves Yankees after hitting 41 homers behind Umpire

“I can say that this group of men will stay in my heart for the rest of my life. This year has been really special to me. But I’m definitely proud of what I’ve accomplished. Thank you Judge.”

Soto asked if he would like to get back to the Yankees after losing this season to win the World Series next year:

“We’ll look at the Yankees as one of the teams I’ll try to be with and we’ll go from there.”

Soto talks about whether he’ll give the Yankees the opportunity to match at-large offers:

“Yankees, I open my arms to let them come and talk to me. None of my doors are closed. I’ll keep all my doors open and whoever wants to come in and talk, we’ll have a good conversation.”

Soto on the message his Yankees teammates sent him in free agency:

“They just wish me good luck. Be assured that I will do what is best for myself and my family. These guys were special. “I’m really happy to play with them.”
