Chaim Haberfeld missing from Hallandale Beach for over a week – NBC 6 South Florida

Friends and family are calling on authorities to step up the search for a 36-year-old man who was last seen at Hallandale Beach a week ago.

Chaim Haberfeld was last seen near NE 2nd Avenue and 10th Avenue last Tuesday, just before the Jewish holiday.

According to the Hallandale Beach Police Department, Haberfeld is approximately 6 feet tall, weighs 145 lbs, and has brown hair and brown eyes. They add that he is known for his trustworthy nature.

Police said Haberfeld may be in the Miami area and was traveling in a 2025 red Lexus with license plate BQ3-5RK.

What was usually a joyful holiday filled with family and friends turned into a nightmare for those who knew the missing man, like Elan Kornblum.

“For us, this is like a sick episode of Law and Order,” Kornblum said. “Saturday night is when Sabbath ends, and I think I heard the missing person report Sunday morning… and thought it was a joke.”

But it was all too real.

Hallandale police issued a missing persons bulletin explaining that detectives were concerned Haberfeld may have been in contact with individuals who exploited him for criminal purposes.

“All this year, the Jewish community has been dealing with people going missing and people being kidnapped. I think when one of our friends in South Florida goes missing, it hits us even more closely,” Kornblum said.

Haberfeld recently moved from New York to South Florida, and friends say he is in the jewelry business.

“He was a rabbi (supervisor) at restaurants. He sometimes handled the hours,” Kornblum said.

If anyone has information on his whereabouts, they are asked to call Hallandale Beach police at 954-457-1432 or 954-457-1400.
