Vienna land annexation for WVU Parkersburg approved by both city and county

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) – West Virginia University Parkersburg’s request for the City of Vienna to annex land at the former Ohio Valley University Campus has been approved by both the city and the Wood County Commission.

WVUP President Torie Jackson said annexing the land to Vienna makes it easier to develop the land.

A big part of this development will be the construction of a road at the end of 12th Street in Vienna that will better connect the campus to Grand Central Boulevard.

The trail is just one aspect of WVUP’s larger plans for the former OVU campus.

They purchased approximately 250 acres of land with the aim of turning it into a new Innovation and Technology Center. Other parts of the plan include building housing and creating business incubation space.

All of those ties add up to an exciting future for a rare piece of undeveloped property in the county, Jackson said.

“If you look at Google Earth, which I do a few times a week, it’s really amazing to see how broad it is and to have the opportunity to work with such a great community of leaders to develop that and make us more attractive from an economic growth standpoint,” he said. “I can’t get more excited about it.” “I couldn’t.”

WVUP also offered a portion of the land to Wood County Schools for use as the site of a new Vienna Elementary School.

School officials have not yet made a final decision on this proposal.
