Woman beaten unconscious near Times Square hotel: sources

MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) – A woman who was attacked near a Manhattan hotel early Tuesday morning is still unconscious and the incident was captured on surveillance video, sources say.

Sources say the woman, believed to be in her 30s, was at 305 West 46th St. around 1:30 a.m. He said he was attacked at the Hotel Riu Plaza in New York’s Times Square. According to sources, the hotel’s security camera footage shows a man attacking the woman until she lost consciousness.

Hotel staff called police after officers spoke with the woman’s doctor at the hospital, sources said. The nature of his injuries was unclear, but he was unconscious as of Wednesday.

There were no arrests and investigators have not released a description of the suspect. It is unknown whether the victim and the suspect knew each other.

A hotel spokesman could not immediately be reached Wednesday.

53 years old in June taxi driver died after being punched by a man outside the Riu Hotel on West 47th Street, according to police. Police said 54-year-old Jaime Rosario was arrested and charged with assault in connection with the incident.

Police said Patino was assigning fares to taxis as guests were leaving the hotel, and Rosario aggressively confronted Patino and punched him in the face, knocking him unconscious. Patino fell and hit his head on the concrete. Police said he was in a coma until he passed away on June 27.

Midtown Manhattan’s 18th Precinct has seen a 50% increase in aggravated assaults this year compared to 2023, according to NYPD data.
