Fake dealer wanted by police after breaking into Taylor’s home and stealing victim’s phone

Taylor police are looking for three men who they say posed as fake salesmen and broke into homes.

These include such an incident earlier this week at the home of a man in his 80s in Munson Near Bailey. According to police, he was in the basement of his home when he heard a commotion upstairs.

“She looked up and saw a young male in her home,” said Lt. Frank Canning of the Taylor Police Department.

The suspect claimed to be the seller, although he did not have any evidence and did not contact the municipality beforehand.

From there he told the old man that he was selling outdoor sealants.

“He’s bidding heavily on sidewalk padding. He’s covering the cracks in his sidewalk. That’s why he yelled to get out of his house,” Canning said.

The homeowner immediately took out his phone and took a photo of the suspect. This action caused the suspect to push the man and take his phone.

He fled in a newer Chevy Equinox, backing down the street at a high rate of speed before driving away.

Another neighbor told police he observed a similar group of men the day before, three of whom were likely in their 20s in a blue SUV.

If this sounds familiar to anyone living in the area, they’re asked to call police.

As for the suspect who stole the victim’s phone: “Turn yourself in so we can get your side of the story. If you’re making a legitimate request, we can work on that,” Canning said.
