The Mets Could Be Fighting the Yankees for Pete Alonso in This Scenario, Insider Says

Among the top priorities New York Mets This summer, he will re-sign popular slugger Pete Alonso.

All indications are that the Mets have a good chance of bringing Alonso back to Queens in the near future. However, they will also face stiff competition from other MLB teams.

30 October Article by Jon Heyman of the New York Post He detailed a potential scenario in which the Mets’ crosstown rival, the New York Yankees, would make Alonso one of their top targets in free agency.

“Should the Yankees fail to fulfill their ‘number one priority’ and re-sign superstar free agent Juan Soto, one backup plan would include Mets slugger Pete Alonso, along with perhaps former Cy Young winners Corbin Burnes or Blake Snell.” It also includes stars like Heyman wrote.

He later added: “But from there, Alonso, who is durable, grip- and battle-tested in New York and would be a valuable complement to Soto, is the perfect replacement for Soto, as he is both a right-handed hitter and a homegrown player.” It’s not a match, we met.”

While Mets fans certainly don’t want to hear that the Yankees could make a real move to sign Alonso, the fact that they are reportedly only prioritizing this if they miss Soto should be viewed as a positive; especially if Soto doesn’t re-sign with the Yankees Mets are rated as the second most likely team to get it.

If Alonso and Soto switch teams in New York this offseason, the Mets will emerge from this scenario pretty solid.
