Suspect who shot and killed 44-year-old man in Bessemer is now in custody

The suspect wanted in the shooting death of a 44-year-old man in Bessemer is currently in custody.

Kalil Judkins, 20, is charged with murder in the death of Tavares Deone Moore on Thursday night (Oct. 24).

The conflict took place at 20.56 in the 2900 block of Ninth Avenue North.

Moore was taken to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, where he was pronounced dead at 9:40 p.m.

Bessemer police Det. Justin Burmeister said Moore was shot multiple times but was able to speak briefly with officers before he died.

Investigators said Friday that Judkins and He said they were actively looking for him.

Judkins surrendered to authorities on Monday. He was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 2:06 p.m. and will remain in custody until his Aniya Law bond hearing.
