Jared Goff among Lions players off from practice

ALLEN PARK — Jared Goff says he’s not worried about his ankle, but the Detroit Lions still gave him a rare day off, keeping the hot quarterback out of Wednesday’s practice.

Goff was hit while taking three early sacks in a win over Tennessee over the weekend and had another ankle taped while the defense was on the field. He stayed in the game and wasn’t asked to do much thanks to another over-the-top rushing attack and plenty of short fields. He completed 12 of 15 passes for 85 yards and three touchdowns in the 52-14 victory.

Head coach Dan Campbell said before practice that a group of players will be kept on rest days, so it’s too early to say much about Goff’s health. Guard Graham Glasgow, guard Kevin Zeitler, offensive lineman Taylor Decker, center Frank Ragnow, defensive tackle Levi Onwuzrike, edge rusher Josh Paschal, nose tackle DJ Reader, running back Sione Vaki and linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez also did not participate in practice for 20 minutes. these were open to journalists.

Paschal has been struggling with an illness that has kept him away from the training fields since last week. He did not play against Tennessee and his status for Sunday’s game against Green Bay was designated “TBD,” according to Campbell, another concern regarding the skewed edge rush.

Rodriguez is dealing with an ankle injury that forced him to be sent to the locker room in the first quarter against the Titans. The injury is not believed to be season-ending, but the Lions could move another linebacker in Green Bay. Derrick Barnes also has a long-term injury.
