4 Early MSU Football Transfer Targets

The Michigan State Spartans have been aggressive when it comes to acquiring or targeting talent under head coach Jonathan Smith. He and his team announced that they would be looking for the right players everywhere.

The transfer portal has made it much easier for young or rebuilding programs to find pieces to fill needed roles. A quick solution for ease of service and beyond. The exemplar of the beyond is Kenneth Walker III, whose one year as a Spartan will live on forever in the annals of East Lansing.

Walker’s 2021 season was almost good enough for the Heisman Trophy and is likely to be the gold standard of transfer portal “boom” (as opposed to crash) to this point.

Perhaps the gem of the Spartans’ latest portal push is linebacker Jordan Turner, arguably their best defensive player.

The Spartans are currently examining the transfer portal, which is clear from the reports. Who are the candidates that would be good to catch?

Call is an extremely athletic defensive lineman who can play true defensive end, but would likely be a stand-up rusher in Joe Rossi’s defense. He fits the accurate measurables at 6 feet tall and 240 pounds.

He was a high three-star recruit in the 2023 class and was part of the mass exodus from UCF. Call is also a younger prospect and two-plus seasons on Rossi’s schedule would be mutually beneficial.

Standing 6 feet tall and weighing 200 pounds, Griffin’s physical profile is reminiscent of Kay’Ron Lynch-Adams. Griffin has a furious and agile personality, but his ability to get angry and drop forward to the likes of Keith Bhonapha will be determined by these non-reporters.

Griffin is a young prospect and could be a long-term project with deep (future) room.

This former four-star star is a 2020 veteran prospect, but he has drool-worthy traits and tools. He is 6 feet tall, 229 pounds.

The Spartans will likely approach Kamara with caution; He’s older, and the Spartans may want to think longer term rather than acquire another older defenseman who will leave after one season. However, Rossi is aggressive in taking on defenders.

warnell a corner turn transformation He is a tall and physical man, standing 6 feet tall and weighing 200 pounds. Given his ceiling, he will likely be one of the most sought-after defenders in the portal, but his age, along with multiple signings, could once again put potential suitors on notice.

The Spartans could always use more depth in the secondary, and a player like Warnell could be a valuable addition.
