CORPUS CHRISTI, Tx – Halloween is Thursday and before you send your child trick-or-treating, it’s important to know where sex offenders live in the city of Corpus Christi.

We investigated the neighborhood sex offenders near the KRIS 6 studio and you might be surprised by what we found.

“We know many Texans, young and old, will be celebrating Halloween this year,” said DPS Director Steven McCraw. “We want you to take some simple safety precautions like staying visible, traveling in groups, and staying alert so everyone stays safe and Halloween remains a fun night for the entire state.”

Authorities warn that children are particularly vulnerable to sex offenders. Open communication between parents and children is vital to family safety.

Halloween safety tips for trick-or-treating:

  • Make sure costumes are bright and reflective, or add reflective tape to darker costumes; This helps drivers see trick-or-treaters at night.
  • Use face paint instead of masks that may block the child’s vision.
  • Walk on sidewalks and use crosswalks.
  • Carry glow sticks, flashlights or wearable lights to increase overall visibility.
  • Use soft and flexible accessories such as pirate swords or blunt wands.
  • Set up a predetermined meeting place in case you get separated.
  • Travel with adult supervision and stay in familiar neighborhoods.
  • Discuss the importance of visiting only well-lit homes and never entering a stranger’s home or car to get candy.
  • Make sure children know an adult’s phone number and how to call 911 if they get lost.
  • After trick-or-treating, take all gifts home for an adult to examine before eating, and never consume any items without packaging.
