A dog died in a fire that broke out in a shed, thought to have started from a wood stove.

Cleveland Fire Brigade were called to Arkley Cresent in Hartlepool on Tuesday evening.

It was stated that a dog was found dead at the scene, and a person suffered burns and received oxygen treatment due to smoke inhalation.

The fire department said the incident was “believed to be accidental” and was caused by an unattended wood stove.

A fire broke out in a backyard shed and spread to the exterior of a home.

Cleveland Fire Brigade said two engines from Hartlepool were sent to the West View area just before 19:00 GMT and the fire was extinguished at 20:42.

The North East Ambulance Service said it took one person to North Tees University Hospital for further treatment.
