Kalen DeBoer music session caption contest: Top 20 winners

This is a thoughtful caption contest

Kalen DeBoer’s ears have been burning all week from your fiery guitar solos, aka subtitles.

Let’s get down to business. This subtitle contest It started with me Crowe Jam newsletter subscribers and then reached AL.com and social media audiences. You all did a good job. Today I’ve included the top 20 (and many more) amazing song titles from all corners of the Lower Alabama internet and beyond. I appreciate all your crazy ideas. You’re all winners in my sketchy book.

But if you want to win an awesome prize (a signed print of your title from the comic) you’ll need to sign up for my Crowe Jam newsletter. These are the rules I just created. To continue. It’s free, easy and fun.

I loved all your captions, but here’s the secret: I gave extra credit because I recognized the white Fender Stratocaster guitar Coach DeBoer chose to play behind his head in the cartoon. This was a reference to Jimi Hendrix. Many rock guitarists paid homage to Hendrix by playing his ax from behind, above his head, with his teeth, and setting it on fire – Stevie Ray Vaughan and Ritchie Blackmore come to mind – but it was Jimi who made the electric guitar. Theaters of twisting, distortion and pyromania are famous.

Featured winner at the top is Crowe Jammer david essex with “Manic depression” Written by Jimi Hendrix. After two losses before November, Alabama football fans can understand the lyrics of this song. Excellent Hendrix song selection. Thanks buddy.

Mixer Elaine Eggers They picked another Hendrix song that Crimson Tide fans might be feeling in Saban’s absence: “The House is on Fire.” Well played, Elaine.

DeBoertitle

The Burning House – Elaine EggersJ.D. Crowe

The other Hendrix-inspired title on this list: “Purple Haze” From my friend and musician Mike Estep. If Mike signs up and asks for a fingerprint, he will get one too.

The same goes for guitar man, the world-famous local legend Fairhope/New Orleans singer-songwriter who has a new album out this week. Go get yourself some Misery, Heartache and Death.

I’m proud to have Grayson Capps as a friend, neighbor, and wise, artistic voice of reason. This guy writes too many great songs to have time for a stupid football coach guitar caption contest. But here it is. Man of the people. Patron of the arts. If he wanted, he could get a print of this Skynyrd-inspired cartoon.

By Grayson Capps
