Coffee Beanery opens on Grant Street, Brightside Cafe receives gluten-free certification

Coffee Factory in Bloomington now daily from 6 a.m. to midnight at 228 S. Grant St. Open at. The coffee shop is the newest location for Coffee Beanery, which opened its first store in Flushing, Michigan, in 1976 and has more than 100 locations across the United States.

Bloomington store owner Asra Khan has added impossible sandwiches to her menu. Khan, who was operations manager at Dunkin’ for 18 years, said he knew they would be a Bloomington favorite. Khan also has an owner Wings Zone restaurant in Indianapolis. He anticipates adding Coldstone Creamery to one side of the Grant Street restaurant in spring 2025. Events are also planned at the cafe, which has seating for up to 50 people both indoors and on the patio. He hopes many Indiana University students will come to sip their beers and use the wireless internet.

Carney said the name came because Brightside Cafe had become more established in the community. More people are discovering Cafe offering breakfast and lunch options from biscuits and gravy to sandwiches and soup. Cardinal Spirits now serves Brightside’s cinnamon rolls during brunch.
