ICC Test Rankings: Jasprit Bumrah loses 1st spot to Kagiso Rabada

India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has lost his number one spot after being overtaken by South pacer Kagiso Rabada in the latest ICC Men’s Test Bowlers Rankings. Rabada’s rise follows his impressive form in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship cycle; this is particularly highlighted by his nine-wicket haul in South Africa’s recent victory against Bangladesh at Mirpur, which also became his 300th Test wicket.

Rabada’s strong performance helped the Proteas to a seven-wicket win, overtaking Bumrah as well as Australia’s Josh Hazlewood and India’s Ravichandran Ashwin to move into the No. 1 spot for the first time since the start of 2019. Rabada rose to the rankings for the first time. It reached the top in January 2018 and has maintained a consistent presence in the top 10 since then, only relinquishing its position in February 2019. Hazlewood currently sits second, while Bumrah and Ashwin have slipped to third and fourth respectively.

Bumrah recently regained his place at the top after his superb display in the Bangladesh series, scalping 11 wickets alongside Ashwin. However, the duo failed to average well above 40 in the ongoing series against New Zealand, taking just three and six wickets respectively.

Elsewhere in the rankings, Pakistan’s Noman Ali has made significant strides, breaking into the top 10 with a career-high ranking following his outstanding performance against England in Rawalpindi. His nine-wicket performance moved him up eight places to ninth place. Fellow Pakistan spinner Sajid Khan also achieved a career-best rating, moving up 12 places to 38th after a 10-wicket display. New Zealand left-armer Mitchell Santner has moved up 30 places to a best 44th overall after his 13-wicket haul against India in Pune.
