China and Myanmar celebrate 10 years of biodiversity conservation partnership

NAYPYIDAW, (Myanmar): China and Myanmar celebrated ten years of cooperation in biodiversity conservation and sustainable development at a ceremony in Naypyidaw on Tuesday (October 29).

The event highlighted China and Myanmar’s decade-long commitment, cooperation and collective actions towards biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.

U Min Thu, Deputy Minister of Myanmar’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, expressed gratitude to the Chinese Academy of Sciences for the financial and technical support it provides to Myanmar for biodiversity conservation and collaborative research.

He noted that ten years of Myanmar-China cooperation have provided valuable opportunities and experiences for mutual learning in biodiversity conservation.

Zheng Zhihong, Undersecretary of the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar, said that China-Myanmar cooperation on biodiversity conservation and sustainable development has achieved fruitful results in the last 10 years.

China and Myanmar established the Southeast Asia Biodiversity Research Institute, conducted nine large-scale joint scientific expeditions, collected and recorded tens of thousands of species, and published more than 100 papers.

Relying on the Southeast Asia Biodiversity Research Institute, he added that the two sides have helped develop Myanmar’s scientific research ability and contributed to Myanmar’s economic development and people’s livelihood.

The minister’s advisor said that, building on the solid foundations of the last decade, the two countries will further strengthen cooperation on biodiversity conservation and sustainable development and make greater contributions to the sustainable development of the two countries, especially Myanmar.

Gong Haihua, Director of the Asian and African Affairs Department of the International Cooperation Bureau of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, stated that the two sides have witnessed successful cooperation in many fields in recent years and expressed his hope that the cooperation will be more productive. will be realized in the future.
