Australian police recover 40,000 stolen ‘Bluey’ coins

SYDNEY — Australian police said on Wednesday they had seized more than 40,000 stolen limited edition coins based on the popular children’s animated series. “Blue.”

Police raided a property in Sydney on July 31 and seized 189 of the coins. They discovered that the dealer selling them was a legitimate coin collector who innocently purchased them for AU$1.50 (98 US cents). He was not paid any compensation for the seized money.

A spokesman for the Royal Australian Mint was unavailable for comment on Wednesday.
