big box
Fun story about
Man who bought 24-year-old PS Plus but it does raise some interesting points, including whether any of us would even be here at that point. Assuming we achieve this, I can’t imagine home consoles becoming a thing. Of course broadband will be good enough by then, the same everywhere and 100% reliable. At this point all you need is flow.

So in that sense, subscriptions like PS Plus will probably continue to exist, but the question is: will PlayStation specifically still exist? I find it impossible to answer this as they have certainly been acting very erratically lately. But maybe Draw a line under Concord and stepping away from mobile devices will help them refocus.

The PlayStation 6 will be interesting because you have to ask whether Sony will go for a Switch-style hybrid, as expected from the Xbox, or put a giant box under your TV. I think it’s a tough call, but somehow I think Sony will want the big box, because it gives the illusion of much more power than a small handheld.

That’s what happens with PlayStation 7 and beyond, where things are likely to see real change. The PlayStation 6 is close enough to remain mostly what we’re used to, but after that I think all bets are off.

Too many games, not enough time
After reading your reviews of Metaphor: ReFantazio and Dragon Age: The Veilguard last week, my first thought was: How am I going to find time to play all these games? I mean, these two games alone will take me around 200 hours, so it’s already going to be three to four months before I finish them both! Add Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and half of my year-long gaming experience is gone!

I really want to support these big budget single-player games, but I already own a bunch of games I haven’t played (including 2015’s Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, which I just started this week!) Considering my savings will easily last me at least a year, it’s full price There’s no point in what’s going on – probably more so due to the free offerings from PS Plus and the Epic Games Store.

The crazy thing is, I play games for an average of two hours a day, so I’d say I spend as much time gaming as anyone else, except for people who ostensibly don’t have to sleep or work. If I can’t follow all the posts, there won’t be many people who can…

life is bad
Earlier this year I I wrote in Inbox After playing True Colors, I express my love for the first Life Is Strange game.

In the same email, I mentioned that some players (not me!) were looking forward to seeing Max again in the new game after wishing he would return for years, and I was looking forward to reading it. GameCentral’s review.

In said email, I was mostly concerned that the developers were ruining the feel and legacy of what made the first game special.

After reading your review, it seems like players need to be careful what they wish for, because too much of a good thing can actually be bad and not as expected.

short term gain
In the last two months, GC has awarded 9 to nine games: Astro Bot, UFO 50, Marvel Vs. Capcom Fighting Collection, Frostpunk 2, Silent Hill 2, Metafor: ReFantazio, Super Mario Party Jamboree, Batman: Arkham Shadow and Drag Age: The Veilguard.

I’m also still looking forward to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, STALKER 2, and Indy.

Without ignoring current industry issues and what this means for its long-term future, we’re in for a good, expanded game patch release.

2023 is considered a standout year for gaming. This year has been very good and 2025 is already looking very promising with the first mainline 3D Mario in seven years, Doom: The Dark Ages, Metroid Prime 4, GTA 6, Ghost Of Yōtei, Fable, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. and a new Professor Layton game.

GC: It’s been a great year for games. We don’t regret any of these 9/10s and as you said, there are potentially more to come.

personal bests
I’m extremely lucky to play a lot of video games. From now on, I want to list my top 10 favorite books of all time.

10. The Wolf Among Us – A Telltale masterpiece and I can’t wait for the sequel.
9. Ghost Of Tsushima – An open-world wonder and a gorgeous Japanese samurai homage.
8. What Remains of Edith Finch – Heartbreaking and beautiful.
7. Baldur’s Gate 3 – Larian’s masterpiece and a true continuation of the turn-based epic.
6. Dark Souls – Darkly enriching and beautifully challenging. Just a masterpiece.
5. Red Dead Redemption – A beautiful story of the past, always catching up with you and your journey of redemption.
4. Mass Effect 2 – A triumph of storytelling and the perfect sequel.
3. Silent Hill 2 – I see that town in my restless dreams. Incredibly beautiful.
2. Bloodborne – A truly effective gothic portrait of Lovecraftian horror.
1. The Last Of Us – A story that brought me to tears and never left my soul. My favorite story and my favorite heartbreak.

    Not at full price
So far I’m really enjoying Star Wars Outlaws (I know I’m a bit late but there’s no way I’m going to pay more than £60 for a game, sorry gaming industry). I think a big part of this is because I’m a fan of movies, books, TV series, and the universe in general. You’re having a really good experience living in the Star Wars world.

My main conclusion so far is that open world games work much better when there is a lack of immediacy in the main story. You’re usually working towards some huge, life-changing, world-saving outcome, so there’s no narrative point in wasting time doing side quests.

I’m still early in the game, so maybe this could change, but so far everything feels much more natural and the side quests fit into what the character is trying to do. There’s nothing more game-changing for me than looking for a villager’s cat instead of doing something that could save the world.

I’m happy to be able to be positive about this game, and if you’re a huge Star Wars fan but have been delayed due to negativity, I recommend you give it a try. It’s certainly not perfect, but it does good enough things that make it probably the most enjoyable Star Wars game since Knights Of The Old Republic for me.

GC: We largely agree. The problem with Ubisoft is that it’s a perfect example of a game where everyone thinks, ‘I’ll buy it when it’s cheap.’

    Confirmed to be perfect
Lately I’ve been playing Wave Race 64 on Nintendo Switch using the N64 controller.

I remember loving this game when it first came out and longing for a new game in the series. But the N64 version is so good that there is no need for a new one. So please Nintendo, make a new Pilotwings instead.

    surprisingly good
After completing the excellent Silent Hill 2 remake, I got what I consider to be the good ending. I find this to be the most satisfying because of the extra context provided for the protagonist’s state of mind.

I also wanted to see the other two main endings, and after reading what it takes to trigger them, I was impressed with the way you play the game and how logical the actions taken in the game are.

As interesting as each ending is, the gameplay requirements to trigger them aren’t as subtle as they might seem at first glance. Personally, I was able to trigger all three endings by loading my last save and doing the last few parts of the requirements for each ending.

This is probably the game of the year so far. I’m not sure if a December remake deserves that title, though. Much of what makes it great (story, characters, mood, and setting) was crafted by another developer years ago.

But it’s so good that it’s a dilemma.

    Inbox is also running
I was thinking of getting a PlayStation Portal, but I have so many games and books on my shelf that I was wondering how much space the portal games would take up. My wife doesn’t want any more “nerd bullshit,” as she calls it. Thanks in advance, he tried to get me to sell my 200 Star Wars paperbacks.

GC: It is quite long, approximately 34cm x 15cm.

I had no idea it was there many Speedball games. So, whoops… considering that track record, it’s pretty brave of them to want to do another one. Good luck to them. Ice cream!
