Nick Nurse Has High Praise for Philadelphia 76ers’ Veteran Forward

This off season Philadelphia 76ers He brought in a number of new faces to reshape the cast around Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. While one is still trying to find his place in the pecking order, he has received high praise from head coach Nick Nurse.

Arguably the most shocking of the Sixers’ transfers this summer was the addition of Caleb Martin. After an impressive run with the Miami Heat, many expected the two-way forward to land a big market. In a shocking move, Martin took a slight pay cut to join the new-look Sixers.

In his first few games with his new team, Martin showed why he made such a big contribution in the summer window. He scored double-digit points in each of his first three games, helping elevate the offense in the absence of Embiid and Paul George. Martin had his best individual performance yet, scoring 17 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in Sunday’s overtime win over the Indiana Pacers.

After Tuesday’s practice, Nurse was asked about Martin’s impact to open the season. There were only positive things about what he saw from the veteran player.

“He’s a winner, he cares, he’s a locker room guy and he’s tough.” The nurse told reporters on Tuesday. “He’s still trying to figure out exactly how he fits, but we’re getting there… He’s been great. He’s a really great addition.”

After Martin agreed to sign with the Sixers, many surrounded him as someone who could be the X-factor for the title-contending team. Based on his play so far, he has shown why his addition is considered one of the biggest steals of free agency.
