MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A murder suspect who was out on bail now faces new charges.

Markell’s Rabbit He was recently arrested after Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies say he strangled his seven-year-old daughter and physically assaulted two women.

However, Hare was also accused of the murder of a beloved music teacher during a home invasion in 2016.

Online records indicate Hare is due to go to trial in that murder case next year.

Deputies were called to Greenalder Cove North early Sunday morning.

There, they say they found a man in the garage, now identified as Markell Hare.

The boy told deputies he called 911 for help because Hare grabbed him by the neck, lifted him off the floor and threw him on the bed.

Deputies saw bruises on the child’s neck.

Records show Hare is out on a $200,000 bond.

He is one of six people accused of the 2016 home invasion and murder of beloved music teacher Christopher Waters.

Waters was found shot and stabbed during a search of his home. He was only 30 years old when he was killed.

His mother spoke to WREG about the tragedy shortly after his death.

“He was just a good man,” Lisa Waters said. “He was my son. “He was my friend.”

He had a strong message for those accused of attacking him.

“I hope they have a lot of time to think about it,” Waters said. “Sit in prison and think about what they did.”

But the case of Hare, who was indicted by a grand jury in 2017, continues to reset.

The reasons for the years-long resets are unclear, but records show his trial is scheduled for February 2025.

WREG has reached out to the District Attorney’s Office regarding this case and is still waiting to hear back.
