Proposed BRG Neighborhood Hospital for Livingston Area

LIVINGSTON PARISH, La. (WAFB) – Even though Livingston is the fastest-growing parish in the state, Parish President Randy Delatte believes some services, such as quality medical care, are still missing. He said many people had to leave the congregation to get the care they needed.

“In the rural areas of the area, going to Ascension, Tangipahoa or EBR is the only option they have,” Delatte explained. “There’s nowhere for them to go.”

This may change soon. A piece of land on Juban Road just off I-12 will become Baton Rouge General’s newest hospital. CEO Edgardo Tenreiro said the $50 million facility will not only bring more emergency services to the area, but also provide primary and inpatient care.

“We’ll have about 20 emergency room beds and about 10 inpatient beds, and with that will come a number of other services like radiology, labs and things of that nature,” Tenreiro explained.

The 14-acre site will also give them enough room to add on as the community continues to grow.

“In the future, as Livingston County grows and the demand for services increases, we may use the parcel for other services,” Tenreiro said. “This could be a surgery center, it could be additional physician offices.”

Construction plans for the neighborhood hospital will go before the neighborhood planning and zoning board for approval. After that, Tenreiro hopes to break ground on the facility in early 2025.
