Family begs suspects to come forward after victim killed in hit-and-run: ‘Hand over yourselves’

A community in Port Richmond mourns after AutoZone worker Kevin Taylor was killed in a crash There was a violent hit and run last week.

“A loving father, great protector of brother, mother and father’s son,” said Shante Thompson, Kevin’s sister.

Thompson uses all the same characteristics to describe his older brother, Kevin Taylor, but unfortunately, the man he calls a gentle giant will suddenly have his life taken away from him.

“It’s such a huge loss, I’m telling you, it’s incredible,” Thompson said.

Just before 7:30 a.m. last Sunday, security cameras captured the moment police say Taylor was driving his AutoZone work vehicle on Richmond Avenue in Port Richmond when a Dodge Ram traveling at an extremely high rate of speed on Venango Street suddenly crashed into a red light. The light hit Taylor’s vehicle.

“We didn’t know the severity of the situation until he came to the hospital and told us he was having emergency brain surgery,” Thompson said.

Taylor fought in the hospital for several days before dying, leaving behind a wife and three children.

“I love you Kev and I’m so sorry this happened to you, I’m so sorry,” Thompson said.

There’s a memorial for Taylor at the scene in Port Richmond, surrounding the damage left from the crash, but one thing that can’t be seen there is Shante and her family’s sense of needing… closure.

Police announced that all of the teenagers in the vehicle that hit Taylor fled the scene.

“Resign yourself and maybe your karma will ease because it’s a terrible thing. What if it was their brother, what if it was their father, they would never want to feel the pain that we feel,” Thompson said.

At Kevin’s memorial service, he is seen wearing his Eagles Jersey, where his family tells us he was a huge Eagles fan.

The family created an environment GoFundMe page to raise money.
