BORDENTOWN, New Jersey (WPVI) — The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office has charged two senior juvenile justice corrections officers with sexually assaulting a female resident.

Attorney General Matthew Platkin announced the charges against 53-year-old Gary Nieves and 35-year-old William Young on Tuesday.

Investigators said Nieves and Young engaged in illicit sexual intercourse with the alleged victim in August at the Women’s Safe Care and Reception Facility in Bordentown, Burlington County.

Each of the suspects faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

In his statement, Platkin said, “We will not tolerate people in power using their authority to exploit people under their care. Allegations that these police officers preyed on a young person in custody lead to serious consequences.”
