Suspect taken into custody after 2 people shot to death in West Phoenix

PHOENIX (AZ Family) – Police announced that a suspect was arrested in connection with the incident fatal shooting of two people in West Phoenix earlier this week.

Shortly after 3 a.m. Monday, Phoenix police responded to reports of a shooting nearby. 67th and Highland streets and arrived to find two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

They have since been identified as 34-year-old Jose Carlos Jimenez and 21-year-old Marquez Anthony Demarcus Booker.

The suspect escaped before police arrived.

Homicide detectives later identified the suspect as 20-year-old Jessie James Olvera, and police said he was tracked to a home in the area. 73rd Street and Sanna Street In Peoria. Investigators say he was eventually taken into custody following a roadblock situation Monday night.

According to police, Olvera made incriminating statements during an interview with detectives. He was later jailed on charges including two counts of second-degree murder.
