Two semis were involved in a crash around 7:39 a.m. on Route 31 near Miller Road in Carpentersville.

According to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, the driver of the Freightliner semi hauling sand was traveling eastbound on Miller Road approaching Route 31.

Meanwhile, the driver of a Mack truck was heading south on Route 31.

The driver of the Freightliner semi allegedly failed to stop at the stop sign to wait for the vehicles to pass through the intersection, the sheriff’s office said.

Unable to stop in time, both halves collided at the intersection.

The driver of the Freightliner semi was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the cab, the sheriff’s office said. The driver of the Freightliner died at the scene.

The Mack semi ended up in a field east of Illinois Route 31. The driver, a 60-year-old of Streamwood, was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

As of 8:30 a.m., Route 31 was closed between Lincoln Boulevard and Longmeadow Parkway.
