Bush, 42, spent part of the weekend knocking on doors for the vice president’s campaign in Pennsylvania, considered one of the key states that will determine November’s election between Harris and Republican Donald Trump.

“It was inspiring to gather with friends and meet voters at the Harris-Walz campaign in Pennsylvania this weekend,” she told People. “I hope they will move our country forward and protect women’s rights.”

Bush describes himself as an independent, but his family is of course descended from Republican royalty; His late grandfather, George HW Bush, also served as president.

A small but vocal group of prominent Republicans, drawn by Trump’s extreme rhetoric on issues ranging from abortion to immigration to democracy, have endorsed Harris.

George W. Bush Trump, who was in the Oval Office from 2001 to 2009, has so far refused to endorse a 2024 nominee and has remained tight-lipped on politics for much of his post-presidency.

But Harris has already won the support of vice president Dick Cheney and his daughter, former Republican congresswoman Liz Cheney, who is campaigning with Harris.

Barbara Bush, whose fraternal twin Jenna works at NBC, has been outspoken about her views on abortion and has rallied in the past for Planned Parenthood, the nation’s leading reproductive health organization and advocacy group.

Trump said his choices for Supreme Court justices were based on Roe v. He boasted that it led to the overturning of the Wade case and the end of federal protections for access to abortion.

Since the court decision in 2022, at least 20 US states have imposed full or partial restrictions, making abortion one of the most important issues of this election.
