It seems like a weird Venn diagram where swashbuckling Billy Bob Thornton and suave Jon Hamm meet in the same series, but here he is, part of the ever-expanding Taylor Sheridan universe. Unlike Sheridan’s biggest hit, Yellowstone, this film is set not on a ranch but in the oil fields of Texas; Thornton plays Tommy Norris, an oil company’s crisis manager, and Hamm plays oil baron Monty Miller. Men and their families have a history. The cast also includes Andy Garcia, Ali Larter and Demi Moore, who plays Monty’s wife Cami. The show was created by Sheridan and Christian Wallace, host of Boomtown, the 2019 podcast that inspired the series. Official statements are usually not worth repeating, but this resonant Podcasts are too glorious to ignore. Paramount says Landman is “the over/under story of tough guys and crazy billionaires who fuel an explosion so big it will reshape our climate, our economy, our geopolitics.” Also, this is a soap opera.

Landman releases on Paramount+ in the US on November 17 and in the UK on November 18
