Chaos again at the Foundation panel meeting – Chaos gathered again at the Foundation panel after the ‘non-Muslim’ board official supported the bill

Chaos broke out again at the meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (KPK) regarding the Foundation Bill. Delhi Waqf Board backs proposed changes Sources said that the law is in this direction. Ashwini Kumar, IAS, director of the Delhi Wakf Board, supported the bill even as Opposition MPs termed her stand “illegal”.

The opposition argued that the director of the Delhi Waqf Board is not a Muslim and that the law states that non-Muslims cannot take part in the Waqf board. A BJP MP pointed out that Arvind Kejriwal appointed a Hindu director to the Delhi Wakf Board when he was the Prime Minister.

On Monday, the opposition walked out of the meeting in protest against the presentation made by the Delhi Waqf Board. AAP MP Sanjay Singh stated that the presentation was not reviewed by the Delhi government. The opposition also alleged that the initial report of the Waqf Board was changed without the approval of Delhi Chief Minister Atishi.

Atishi also wrote a letter to the committee, saying the submission should be considered “null and void.”

TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee, who received a one-day suspension for her unruly behavior last week, also attended the meeting. Banerjee had injured her hand after breaking a glass water bottle following a heated argument with BJP MP Abhijit Gangopadhyay during the meeting. Banerjee on Tuesday said that she got angry after Abhijit Gangopadhyay harassed her and her family.

Narrating the sequence of events, Banerjee said, “That day, there was a heated argument between Nasir Hussain of the Congress and Abhijit Gangopadhyay. I asked why he (Abhijit Gangopadhyay) was shouting. Then he started harassing me, my mother, my father and my wife… After the President came Then he was harsh but gentle with me. This made me angry. Then I broke the (glass) bottle on the table.”

He further said, “It was never my intention to throw a bottle at the Speaker. The Speaker has no power to suspend members, only the Speaker has the power. Abhijit Gangopadhyay is a black spot in the judiciary and a rotten man.”
