New swing in Apple Park at the request of a young girl

COLORADO SPRINGS — A new accessible swing is ready for use at a park on the north side of Colorado Springs, and it’s all thanks to a young girl’s wish.

Seven-year-old Annellyse Berger has a genetic disorder and is confined to a wheelchair. He enjoys using the swings at Apple Park in the Northgate neighborhood. As he gets older, it becomes harder for his family to get him into this business.

His family says one of Berger’s caregivers told his story to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. As soon as they heard, they reached out to see what wishes they could make for Berger.

Instead of taking the trip or just using it on his own, Berger asked the foundation to help build a swing set for him and disabled children in his community.

“Probably the biggest part of his wish was to have a place where other kids of all abilities could come to this park and play with other kids, and we love the inclusive aspect of it,” Joshua said. Berger is Annellyse’s father.

Make-A-Wish says granting this kind of wish is rare. Annellyse’s family says they are excited to have a place where their daughter can have fun, just like any child.
