Investigators say Yuma deputies shot man who pointed a shotgun at them

YUMA, AZ (AZAfamily) — A man was hospitalized after investigators say he pointed a shotgun at Yuma County Sheriff’s Office deputies Monday morning, which is why they shot him.

YCSO said the unidentified 51-year-old man grabbed the shotgun while trying to open his neighbor’s door just before noon.

Investigators said they tried to de-escalate tensions when deputies arrived, but he did not comply with orders and pointed his gun at deputies.

That’s when they opened fire.

YCSO said he was shot and dropped his gun.

Deputies said the man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

No MPs were harmed.

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office at 928-783-4427 or 78-CRIME to remain anonymous.

You can also visit YCSO’s website at: www.yumacountysheriff.org To submit an anonymous tip.

This was the 32nd shooting involving law enforcement outside the Valley in 2024 and the 77th statewide.
