Missing Rankin County teenager found in Arkansas

RANKIN CO., Miss. (WLBT) – A missing Hartfield Academy student was found in Arkansas on Monday.

A press release says John Michael Jones He was tricked online into meeting someone down the street from his home in Brandon.

Authorities told WLBT 3 On Your Side that person turned out to be an older Hispanic male who then secretly left with Jones.

This person was later identified as 34-year-old Kaleb James Cannady.

According to the press release, a Beware warrant was immediately issued for Cannady’s vehicle, identified as a silver 2015 Dodge Charger with Arkansas license plates.

Troopers with the Arkansas State Police and officers with the Belle Vista Police Department located the suspect’s vehicle at 7:17 p.m. and took Cannady into custody pending an active arrest warrant through Rankin County Court.

Jones is safe and in the custody of the Arkansas State Police.

“The Rankin County Sheriff’s Office wishes to express its thanks and appreciation to the United States Marshals, Arkansas State Police, Belle Vista Police Department, MS Bureau of Investigation, and MS Office of the Attorney General for their assistance in this case. Most importantly, “We want to thank the public for keeping John Michael Jones on everyone’s mind. Thanks to your help, as well as our law enforcement, we were able to locate and rescue the Brandon teenager in just over 24 hours.”
