A funeral home owner in Georgia was arrested on Sunday, October 27, after authorities found 18 human bodies in various stages of decomposition while serving an eviction notice on the property.

Chris Johnson, 39, faces seventeen counts of abuse of a corpse, authorities said, according to a Georgia Bureau of Investigation press release.

The bodies were discovered after deputies announced the evacuation at Johnson Funeral Home in Douglas on Saturday, October 26.

“This investigation is active and ongoing,” the GBI said in the press release. “Additional fees are expected.”

A funeral home spokesman could not be reached for comment.

It is unclear whether Johnson has an attorney or has entered a plea.
