Jumanji 3, which is actually Jumanji 4, is set for release in 2026

There was a 22-year gap between the first Jumanji and its 2017 sequel, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. So the seven-year gap between the third movie, 2019’s Jumanji: The Next Level, and the fourth movie isn’t that bad by comparison. Now Sony has set the date for the next Jumanji… and is listing it as “Jumanji 3” for now.

Jumanji 3 will be released in theaters on December 11, 2026. Just as The Next Level was released without the 2 in its title, it’s likely that the film’s final title will dispense with the 3 altogether. Although no other movies are listed for release this weekend, Sony has chosen a date that falls just a week before Dune Messiah and an unnamed Star Wars movie. Considering the lack of Star Wars movies in the last five years, it would not be surprising if this untitled Star Wars movie was postponed to another date. However, if Dune Messiah sticks around, a franchise war could occur in late December 2026.

Accordingly DeadlineJake Kasdan will return as director, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will produce the sequel alongside Kasdan, Hiram Garcia and Matt Tolmach. Johnson also Dr. He will reportedly reprise his role as Xander Bravestone. Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan are also said to be in talks to return.

While the first Jumanji dealt with a magical board game, Welcome to the Jungle updated the premise by replacing Jumanji’s in-universe board game with a console-style video game. Johnson’s Bravestone, like Hart’s Franklin “Mouse” Finbar, Black’s Professor Sheldon Oberon, and Gillan’s Ruby Roundhouse, was merely an avatar for the human actor. Potentially, this means entirely new characters could be stuck in the game unless some of The Next Level’s other cast members also return.
