Cañon City man killed in fatal crash in Florence – Canon City Daily Record

A Cañon City man was in Florence, Colo., on Thursday. He died when his motorcycle collided with the vehicle in front of him at 115.

20-year-old Blake Marquez died at the scene of a three-vehicle collision at milepost 5 at around 14:20.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, Marquez was traveling northbound on an eastbound Suzuki motorcycle when the motorcycle collided with the left rear of a Nissan Pathfinder driven by a 72-year-old woman from Pueblo. Following the impact, Marquez was thrown from his motorcycle. The Pathfinder then collided with a Dodge Ram 2500 driven by a 27-year-old Florence man. After colliding with the Dodge, the motorcycle was pushed south and crashed into the guardrail. The Dodge continued southbound and also struck the guardrail.

Colorado State Patrol said Marquez was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. No one else was injured in the accident.

It is thought that the accident was caused by excessive speed on the part of the motorcycle.
