Epcor removes 20,000 goldfish from Edmonton pond

Epcor says more than 20,000 goldfish have been removed from a rainwater pond in Edmonton.

The utility company began adding the chemical rotenone to Glastonbury stormwater management facilities last week to cull the invasive fish.

An Epcor spokesman said the weight of the fish removed from the pond was 770 kilograms.

One goldfish was 29.3 centimeters (11.5 inches) long and weighed 874 grams (1.9 pounds).

More fish are expected to be landed throughout the week.

Epcor also pumped water from the pond earlier this month to prevent fish from reaching the North Saskatchewan River.
