Six Months of Impersonation Ends with Arrest of Patna Man

Patna Fake ‘Droga’: Patna Police arrested a man who had been posing as a “daroga (police inspector)” and impersonating a police officer in Patna’s Ramkrishna Nagar area for the last six months. The fraudster, identified as Vipul Paswan, was arrested on Sunday (October 27) following numerous complaints from locals who became suspicious of his activities.

According to Patna Police, Paswan, whose father’s name is Ramvilas Paswan, is originally from Bahadurpur in Darbhanga district and was living in a rented house in Ramkrishna Nagar, Sorangpur. Wearing a police uniform with rank insignia, he patrolled the area and introduced himself as a ‘daroga’ working in the Accountant General’s (AG) office. During his six-month-long charade, he allegedly harassed and extorted shopkeepers and residents and threatened those who questioned his authority.

‘No Connection with the Police’

Police came to know about Paswan after locals raised concerns and cops questioned him. Despite his attempts to evade arrest, local pressure led police to detain him for further investigation. During interrogation, Paswan admitted that he had no connection with the police force, officials said.

Sadar-2 deputy superintendent of police (DSP) said Paswan had no official standing and the uniform was purely for deception. He said the man had no connection to the police department and that police were investigating how he obtained the uniform and what his purpose was.

The arrest comes on the heels of another incident in Jamui, Bihar, where 18-year-old Mithilesh Majhi was arrested on September 20 after being caught posing as an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer.

Majhi, a resident of Lakhisarai, told police that he paid 2 lakh rupees to an “agent” who gave him a uniform and a gun, which later turned out to be fake.
