2 people died in small plane crash

JESSAMINE CO., Ky. (WKYT)—Authorities are investigating a small plane crash in Jessamine County.

The crash occurred around 6 p.m. Sunday in a field near Ashgrove and involved a single-engine parachute plane, according to the Jessamine County Sheriff’s Office.

Shortly before 6 p.m., someone spotted the crashed plane and called 911, Jessamine County Sheriff Kevin Grimes said.

Sheriff Grimes said first responders arrived on scene within minutes of the 911 call and immediately determined the two people on board were dead.

He said a man and a woman, believed to be husband and wife, died in the crash. Their names have not been released yet.

According to Sheriff Grimes, the male pilot was experienced and had been flying for approximately 20 years.

A preliminary investigation is ongoing. The sheriff’s office said the NTSB and FAA were notified of the crash.

The NTSB is expected to arrive at the crash scene Monday morning to begin its investigation.

The Jessamine County Sheriff’s Office is asking people to avoid the area until further notice.

This is an evolving story.
